MENDEZ, CAVITE Sinagingan Festival May 15 - Annual Celebration
The month of May is devoted to various festivals in the country honoring the image of several patron saints. Among those popularly known festivals celebrated during this month is the Pahiyas Festival of Lucban, Mayohan sa Tayabas and Sariaya Hagisan in the province of Quezon, the local folks are honoring their patron saint " San Isidro Labrador ".
It has been more than a century since the farmers of Mendez, Cavite has been paying homage to their patron saint San Isidro Labrador. The icon of San Isidro Labrador has a colorful history which dates bach to 19th century.
The festival is centered on banana produce dominating Barangay Palocpoc. Today, it is considered one of the major agricultural products by the local farmers, thus the holding of the first "Sinagingan Festival" Last May 15,2003. The festival highlight is the farmers procession and the street dancing parade combined, showcasing the local banana produce.
Out of the total land area of 263 hectares in Barangay Palocpol in Mendez, ninety-five percent of the land area is devoted to agricultural plants, which vary from jackfruit to pineapple, and from coconut to local coffee beans.
The festival will offer a glimpse of an unfamiliar commemoration of the feast, aimed to be one of the major festivals in Southern Tagalog, by attracting local and foreign tourist alike. The festival has also been included in the annual calendar of events of the Department of Tourism - REGION IV.
