21 April 2004 3rd Zamboanga Peninsula Summer Caravan kicks-off today
The Department of Tourism with La Hermosa Tourism Foundation kicks-off
with its 5-day summer caravan today with participants from the academe, business, media and other local government units. The caravan starts at Zamboanga City all the way to cities of Pagadian, Dipolog, and Dapitan via Ipil in
Zamboanga Sibugay.
DOT Regional Director for Zamboanga Peninsula Ricardo San Juan is highly
optimistic that the project will further boost domestic tourism in the
region and at the same time support President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo?s
Strong Republic Nautical Highway.
Everyone has this stigma that Mindanao is not a safe place to visit or travel to but we hope to slowly eradicate this notion by coming up with projects such as this one? San Juan srtessed. On its third year now, thecaravan affords participants the chance to discover their own region. San Juan added Through this project, we hope to further inculcate the ?culture of tourism? among Zamboangueños.
A unique itinerary has been arranged for this year?s participants. Organizers have included a short trip to the Municipality of Kabasalan to further promote agri-tourism. Kabasalan is one of the municipalities known to be a major producer of export quality oyster or talaba. Recently, the region vied for the record of Worlds Longest Talaba Grill.
The participants will also experience a day of ultimate relaxation at the famous Dakak Beach Resort which is renowned for its fine white sand beach. Participants can also choose to enjoy the Locon-Alimango-Bangus Festival at Ipil, Sibugay whose event activities coincide with the summer caravan.
The caravan?s itinerary also includes a trip to historical Rizal Park.
Also included in the itinerary are visits to Mahayag waterfalls, a site perfect for swimming and boating in the pristine waters of Lakewood.
La Hermosa Tourism Foundation chairman Butch Blanco said that for a modest fee of only 4,500.00 pesos, all these places plus meals, transportation and hotel/resort accommodation for five days and four nights have all been taken cared for. With all the arrangements made, the event organizers already see success of this year's summer caravan.
