15 February 2004 Cagayan Valley gears for Our Lady of Piat Quadri-centennial festivity
The Department of Tourism Regional Office is preparing for the influx of both local and foreign tourists and devotees on June 23 as Cagayan Valley Region celebrates the Quadri-centennial festivity of the Feast Day of Our Lady of Piat, this year.
The Cagayan Valley Region is known as the home of the Miraculous Lady of Piat because of the many miracles and divine interventions attributed through Her intercession. The Vatican has issued a document authorizing Her Canonical Coronation as Queen of the Cagayan Valley Region on June21
Due to the big celebration of the two events, the DoT has started coordinating with all the accredited and non-accredited tourism related facilities as part of the preparations for the arrival of devotees coming from all over the country and abroad.
DoT Region 2 is also preparing the host communities for intensive advocacy of the Culture of Tourism through lectures on fair pricing, honesty, courtesy and quality standard of products and services.
Many activities have been lined-up by the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao led by Archbishop Diosdado Talamayan which includes a Pilgrimage of Voyage of Peace, three-day Marian Congress, medical missions and museum exhibits, Religious Sales Mission to Macau and Hong Kong and street dancing competitions among others.
There will be a fluvial procession in eight towns of Cagayan on June 4 to 22 in Aparri, Camalaniugan , Lallo, Gattaran, Alcala, Amulung, Iguig, Tuguegarao City and Piat.
DOT Region 2 Director Blessida Diwa said, The Our Lady of Piat will make the Voyage of Peace in Nueva Ecija, Quirino and Isabela then she goes to Tabuk and finally to Cagayan till June 4 and be brought by fluvial procession from Aparri to Tuguegarao City passing by the towns along the mighty Cagayan River.
One of the highlights of the event is the street dancing competition entitled Tugin-Sanig para kani Apo Bako , an inter-Catholic school contest to be held at the Lyceum of Aparri.
