27 July 2004 DOT opens refresher course for tour guides
Tourism Secretary Roberto “Obet” Pagdanganan recently announced the conduct of a Refresher Course for Tour Guides slated on August 16-21, 2004 at the DoT Training Room.
The refresher course is open to previously accredited tour guides who have been inactive in the service for not more than four (4) years to update and upgrade their knowledge and skills.
Pagdanganan said “Our tour guides play a vital role in the industry of tourism. Being frontliners, the impression that they will impart to the visitors will make or break the future trips of tourists in the country, as the tourist can become the country’s agent abroad.”
“A happy tourist can ensure a return trip back to the country not to mention the tendency for them to invite and convince their friends and relatives on how beautiful the Philippines is and how good the Filipinos are,” added Pagdanganan.
Aside from a refresher course, a seminar-workshop for tour guiding is scheduled on the 3rd quarter of the year. It aims to professionalize the tour guiding services of the tourism industry by giving the participants the knowledge, skills and right attitude relevant to tour guiding.
The Tour Guiding Seminar is open to everyone who is interested to become a DOT-Accredited Tour Guide. Applicants must meet the minimum requirements in order to avail of the seminar, which are: applicants must have finished at least 2nd year college, can speak at least 1 foreign language fluently other than English, and submit photo copy of diploma or transcript of records and 1pc. 2x2 colored ID picture.
