27 May 2004 Department of Tourism backs formation of Spa Association of the Philippines Inc.
Tourism Secretary Roberto Pagdanganan lauds the formation of the Spa
Association of the Philippines Inc. that will uphold the standards and
ethics of the spa industry in the country.
The association, which is composed of accredited firms, providers, health and wellness facilities aims to professionalize the business by ensuring a high standard of service and facilities likewise develop a unique branding or image of the Spa industry in the Philippines.
The Department of Tourism's drive in promoting health tourism in the country includes the promotion of spa tourism, which is popular in many countries for its beauty and therapeutic benefits. Health tourism, combining wellness and leisure will attract more foreign and local tourists in the country at the same time boost local herbal industry and promote traditional
Filipino culture.
Secretary Pagdanganan encourages other spa establishments to join the organization in order to boost the Philippine Spa industry. All interested parties must first acquire accreditation from the Department of Tourism to make sure that they meet the set standards.
Members of the association are assured of the following benefits: education, setting standards, human resources development, assistance in obtaining DOT accreditation, promotions, networking opportunities, discounts on spa products and services, and other technical support.
The Spa Association of the Philippines Inc. is scheduled to participate in the BIO-Search 2004, a Philippine Health and Wellness Show on May 28-30 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
