Giant Lights and Lanterns to Brighten CCP Complex this Christmas Season
Starting November 28 until January 11, the Department of Tourism (DOT) together with the principal organizer, Phil-China STETPI will display extra-ordinary giant lights and lanterns depicting places, history and fairytale stories for the first time in the Philippines at the CCP Complex situated across the World Trade Center.
After successful stints in key Asian cities, the Zigong Lantern Festival showcase dubbed as "Amazing World of Lights and Lanterns" was designed to provide the Filipino people as well as local and foreign visitors a wholesome, colorful and memorable celebration for the Christmas season through a festive and entertaining event.
To be featured in a giant lights and lanterns are 21 splendid awesome lights and lanterns and each lantern is a showcase of the Zigong people's ingenuity and skill, utilizing unique materials, shapes, and lights "as radiant as pearls."
Lanterns to go on display will carry different themes all over the world. Each lantern has either classic, animated, flambouyant, dramatic, humorous, elegant and inspiring stories to tell.
Among the featured lantern groups are the Holland Windmill, Roman Coliseum, Merry Christmas, Panda, Open Sesame which combines two Arabian tales Ali Baba and the 40 thieves and the Magic Lantern, The African Native Dance, Small Magic Girl, Animal World, King's New Dress, Happy Chorus, Recovering Moonout of Water, World of Dinosours, Snow White and the seven Dwarfs and the Street Scene of Europe.
Admission fee is P60.00 for both adult and children from Sunday to Thursday and P100.00 from Friday to Saturday.
The Zigong Lantern Show in China is a well-loved and much-awaited traditionally and popularly known as the "Number One Lantern Festival Under Heaven. "
Since the 1960s, the Zigong Lantern Festival has staged over 50 shows in China and other Asian countries including Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Japan and Malaysia.
The DOT will also feature Philippine-made lanterns "parols" from Pampanga and will show other delectable fare from the regions.
