Boracay tourist arrivals up despite economic crisis and H1N1 flu

The tourist arrivals in the internationally renown Boracay island has increased despite the global economic crisis and the reported cases of A(H1N1) flu.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Dir. Edwin Trompeta said that the tourism industry in Boracay and in the entire Western Visayas has remained to be strong despite the problems.

No Crisis in Paradise Island 

Recent report by the DOT Regional Office VI showed that from January to May 2009, a total of 337,666 tourist arrivals in the paradise-island or 5.16 percent higher than the 321,094 during the same period in 2008.

Of the these arrivals, Korea ranked first with 30,369. Korea has been consistent in topping the list because of the number of Korean students who are here to study and who take time out to visit Boracay island in Aklan province, together with their vacationing parents.

Second is China with 11,084 tourists. The direct flight from China to Kalibo has contributed much to the high number of Chinese tourists.

Tourists from Taiwan also ranked third with 7,014; United States of America, 4th with 6,155; Hong Kong, 5th with 3,201; United Kingdom, 6th, 2,835; Australia, 7th with 2,669; Germany, 8th with 2,660; Japan, 9th with 2,357; and Canada, 10th with 2,264.

Philippine Department of Tourism reports 4.01% increase in Boracay tourist arrival

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Office 6 has recently reported an increase of 4.01% in the tourist arrival of the pristine Boracay island in Aklan province for the months of January and February 2009.

The DOT regional office headed by Director Edwin Trompeta further reported that the increase was obtained because of the total registered arrival which is 99,939 as compared to the figure for the same months last year which was 96,085.

The biggest contingent of foreign tourists who have come to Boracay island is still the Koreans with a total of 11,174 followed by the Chinese with 7,719, Taiwanese with 2,987, and Americans with 2,864 during the 2 previous months. (more…)

Boracay Island visitors hit 481,157; bring in P8.8-B in tourist receipts

The number of visitors who have gone to Boracay Island from January to September of this year have reached 481,157, records from the Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) here shows.

The records from the PTO were displayed during the weeklong statistical exhibit held at the lobby of the Provincial Capitol Building here as one of the activities of the province in observance of Statistics Month.

For the period, foreign tourists were counted at 144,502 while domestic tourists were at 291,953. Overseas Filipinos who visited the island, on the other hand, reached 44,702.

Total tourism receipts generated for the period reached P8,845,301,593.80. Of these, foreign tourists contributed P4,996,561,255.60 while local tourists contributed P4,482,594,990.50.

The report from the PTO also yielded last year’s top ten foreign nationalities who visited the island. Korean visitors had the biggest number with 128,909 followed by Japan, 35,294; U.S.A., 13,362; China, 12,720; United Kingdom, 5,514; Hong Kong, 4,514; Germany, 4,351; Taiwan, 3,621; Australia, 3,420 and Canada, 3,158.

By 2010, the island of Boracay targets to have 1,000,000 visitors. This year’s figures are still expected to swell as there are three more remaining months of the year.
