Foreigners outnumbered local tourists in Boracay Island

Foreign tourists coming to the island resort of Boracay outnumbered local tourists early this year.

For the month of March alone the Provincial Tourism Operations Office (PTOO) in Aklan recorded a total of 62,970 tourists having visited Boracay Island.

Of the total number of visitors, 39,615 were foreign tourists while 23,355 were domestic tourists.

However, tourist arrival in March this year is lower compared to the same period in 2010 which earned the tourism industry revenues of some P1,157,602,698.

The PTOO believes the decrease in the number of visitors was due to the onset of rainfall spawned by the inclement weather prevailing elsewhere in the region during the first quarter of this year. (more…)

Philippine Department of Tourism reports 4.01% increase in Boracay tourist arrival

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Office 6 has recently reported an increase of 4.01% in the tourist arrival of the pristine Boracay island in Aklan province for the months of January and February 2009.

The DOT regional office headed by Director Edwin Trompeta further reported that the increase was obtained because of the total registered arrival which is 99,939 as compared to the figure for the same months last year which was 96,085.

The biggest contingent of foreign tourists who have come to Boracay island is still the Koreans with a total of 11,174 followed by the Chinese with 7,719, Taiwanese with 2,987, and Americans with 2,864 during the 2 previous months. (more…)

Boracay featured in high society Aussie magazine

A weekly Australian magazine, “Grazia,” exploring life at the top in terms of fashion, celebrities and travel has featured Boracay’s beauty extensively.

Holding the glossy high life magazine for everyone to see, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Joseph Ace Durano said, “Our country’s exposure in different renowned foreign publications show that we are continually on the world’s blue list of the best.”

Durano added, “This affirms that our investments in one of the country’s prime tourist destinations is worth every cent because Boracay is, indeed, among the world’s top 10 beaches.”

Boracay island is blessed with crystal-clear waters, ultra-fine sand and, despite the number of developments on shore, it’s unique charm never fail to captivate worldwide tourists. (more…)
