Philippines to participate in Asean Tourism Forum 2010

The Department of Tourism (DOT) continues to step up the country’s marketing efforts in the Philippine participation at the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), the region’s foremost tourism and travel event, to be held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam from 21 to 28 January 2010.

Under the theme ‘ASEAN – The Heart of Green’, ATF 2010 is set to echo the success of ATF in the previous years in promoting tourism in the region, and more importantly, in advancing 2010’s green theme in promoting responsible environmental and social practices in tourism-related businesses.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano said, “Green tourism has always been our advocacy, being a country blessed with natural resources and ecotourism sites. With our participation in this upcoming event in Brunei Darussalam , we aim to not only promote our tourism destinations, but also to call for responsible travel – both from industry players and tourists alike.” Continue reading →

Philippine Department of Tourism optimistic about ASEAN ‘open skies’ deal

The Department of Tourism (DOT) is confident that the Philippines is ready for open skies. Discussions on this agreement amongst the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) member countries could finally lead to the signing of the policy around April 2010.

Under the ASEAN agenda, which covers economic recovery plan until 2015, the open skies pact focuses on the liberalization of air space between member countries, including the lifting of tariffs and other add-on costs. This new agreement will allow regional air carriers to make unlimited flights among the group’s 10 capital cities. For the Philippines, this entices more airlines to land in the country, increasing flights and providing more options for passengers.

“We are taking positive steps towards the signing of the agreement, as the benefits of air space liberalization for the country signal a region-wide increase in cooperation and tourism activity,” Tourism Secretary Ace Durano noted.

The move promises to re-energize the stalled 2003 ASEAN open-skies framework, which includes phased plans for liberalizing intra-ASEAN freight and passenger air services by 2015. Industry analysts are convinced the deal also promises to boost regional tourism, trade, and aviation-related investments.

Durano added, “The sealing of this deal strengthens not only tourism but more so, economic relations between the country and our ASEAN counterparts. We see this as a welcome development, contributing to the growth of the airline industry through increased availability for more passengers.”

Growth in ASEAN neighbours

Undersecretary for Tourism Planning and Promotions Eduardo Jarque, Jr. said, “Our neighbours in the region have seen the benefits of the open skies agreement, and we hope to replicate the same success here in the country.” Continue reading →

Philippine Department of Tourism promotes Philippines tourist spots for the long holidays

In view of the long-weekends declared by Malacanang for the year 2010, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is urging the public to spend their holidays in the country and help contribute to the growth of the local economy.

“Spending your vacation here is a great pledge to love your own and do your part in boosting our country’s growth,” said Tourism Secretary Joseph ‘Ace’ Durano.

Aside from the country’s eight anchor spots — Boracay, Palawan, Davao, Cebu, Bohol, Vigan, Baguio, and Manila — the department is also actively promoting unexplored sites to benefit the communities in remote areas.

“We enjoin people to visit tucked-away destinations as well for economic gains to trickle down to the grassroots level,” Durano said.

These alternative spots are readily available and highly accessible for tourists who prefer to immerse themselves with the local life, enjoy the flavor of home-grown leisure, and stay in accommodations such as homestays and inns, the tourism chief added. Continue reading →

Importance Of GPS Tracking System For Travel

Have you heard about Global Positioning System Tracking software already?.

GPS is a kind of software that serves as a tracking device using a signal that is being transmitted via satellite. The space sattelites identifies the geographic location where the particular GPS is located.

The location information returned is basically in latitude and longitude, which is then transformed by a system decoder into a recognizable address. At present, the satellites’ number have increased to 30 resulting to a wider range of GPS locations. But a GPS tracking software may also locate vehicles or persons that are not in possession of a GPS receiver. To quickly get a location, it will just need an unobstructed view of the satellites. It makes sense why Davao City has become–and will remain to be one of the top tourist destinations in the Asia Pacific region.

Simple wonders from nature, the warmth of its people, and simple but top of the class amenities for tourists from all walks of life are high on the list.

The Davao City Tourism Operations Office said there are the 10 things that sets Davao City apart from the rest:

1. Typhoon-Free Zone — Because Davao City is absolutely typhoon-free and enjoys good weather all year round, there is an abundance of flora and fauna as well as food, water, and livelihood.

It is also ideal for outdoor activities because of the stable weather condition. It is a good season for adventure and sports anytime of the year so one is not limited to just the summer months.
