2010 Philippine Travel Mart to highlight Subic Bay anew

Subic Bay’s unique tourist attractions will once again become a major highlight of this year’s Philippine Travel Mart (PTM), the country’s largest and longest-running travel, tourism and trade fair.

On its 21st year, 2010 Philippine Travel Mart is organized by the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) in cooperation with the Department of Tourism.

This year’s theme, “Wow I Love Philippines” further boosts PTM’s focus on the “one thousand and one ways to enjoy the beautiful, scenic and exciting Philippines.”

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) is a major partner of the Philippine Travel Mart 2010 that will be held on September 3-5 at the Megatrade Halls of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

The SBMA Tourism Department said some 12 locators and business establishments and stakeholders in Subic Bay Freeport have joined the SBMA to complete “Team Subic Bay,” participating in various activities the team has prepared for the event.

These establishments are: Treetop Adventure, Courtyard Inn, Subic International Hotel, Vista Marina, Traveler’s Inn and Venezia Hotel & Casino, Bayfront Hotel, Subic Holiday Villas, Forest View, Moonbay Marina Villas, as well as Subic Grand Seasons Resort and Olongapo City – based Wild Orchid Resort. Bacolod Travel Exchange 2010

The Department of Tourism (DOT) is preparing for the holding of the Bacolod Travel Exchange intended to promote and market the different tourism destinations in Western Visayas.

DOT Regional Director Edwin Trompeta said that the travel exchange will be held on August 20-22 and is already the 7th travel exchange to be held. It will be hosted by Bacolod City this year.

During the travel exchange, resort owners, transport companies, and other tourism stakeholders will showcase their facilities and services.

The organizers of the Bacolod Travel Exchange have also invited buyers and investors from Manila and Cebu City to see the tourism destinations being promoted.

President Benigno Aquino III recently swore into office Vicente R. Romano III as Undersecretary for Tourism Development, Department of Tourism (DOT).

He was joined by his family in the simple oath taking rites in Malacañang. Romano brings to DOT vast experience and solid expertise in marketing and information technology.(

Filipinos urged not to travel to Thailand

Citing the official state of emergency imposed in the Thai capital of Bangkok and adjoining areas and intensifying anti-government protests, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) today urged Filipinos not to make unnecessary travel to Thailand.

DFA also advised that Filipinos already in Thailand avoid areas, especially in Bangkok, that have been identified as meeting and staging center for rallies against the government of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

The protesters are supporters of Abhisit’s predecessor, Thaksin Shinawatra.

”In view of the declaration of a state of emergency in Bangkok, Thailand on April 7, and the reported plans of demonstrators to intensify protests, Filipinos are advised to postpone all non-essential travel to Thailand, particularly to Bangkok,” DFA said.

Summer beckons in Guimaras

The province of Guimaras aside from its beautiful pristine beaches is also inviting tourists to visit some of its amazing destinations this summer.

The destinations are part of the on-going exhibit at the Robinson’s Mall here in line with the Manggahan Festival that kicked off on Monday.

Two of the destinations are found in Buenavista town while the rest are in Jordan and Nueva Valencia towns.

The municipality of Buenavista boasts of its Navalas Church and the McArthur’s Wharf.

The Navalas Church is the oldest existing Roman Catholic Church in the province. It was built in 1880 and has survived the test of time.

It used to have the biggest bell, which is about 4- feet tall, but was carted away and dumped into the sea near the Isla del Siete Pecados by Muslim invaders. (more…)

Aboitiz’s SuperCat acquires new fast craft

As part of its efforts to boost its passenger-carrying capability, Aboitiz Transport System’s SuperCat unit recently announced the purchase of a new fast craft, SuperCat 38.

This newest addition to the SuperCat fast ferry family servicing the passengers taking the Bacolod-Iloilo routes and vice versa.

SuperCat 36, the twin of SuperCat 38, is also servicing the Calapan-Batangas route.

The new vessel, which has the first ever state-of-the- art resilient mounting that acts like a shock absorber in rough seas, results in a smoother and more comfortable ride as explained by Capt. Jose Correos, the Master Mariner of SuperCat 38. (more…)
