Sinulog organizers see few out-of-town contingents joining this month’s grand parade, but they won’t let it dampen the festive mood and ongoing preparations for the religious festival’s 30th anniversary of one of the biggest cultural event in the country.
Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) executive director Ricky Ballesteros said they are now 80 percent done with the preparations for the Jan. 17 grand parade and other Sinulog activities, which will cost P25 million to stage.
Ballesteros promised Cebuanos and foreign visitors a whole day of fun and surprises, since they will go all-out in the production numbers during the grand parade.
Excellent musicality and creativity will give the parade and the finale a high entertainment value, he said, especially for those who will watch from the Cebu City Sports Center. (more…)

BACOLOD CITY, — Preparations are underway for this year’s
The Philippines, also known as the pearl of the orient, is an archipelago located in southeast Asia. It consists of about 7,000 islands; a little more if it’s low tide. It’s quite hot all year round, and it seems that the heat only dissipates sometimes during the monsoon season or “wet season.” During this time a series of typhoons slam the Philippines with strong rains. Apart from typhoons causing occasional floods, the Philippines also experiences volcanic eruptions every now and then; Mt. Pinatubo, Mt. Mayon, and Mt. Taal are some of the more active Philippine volcanoes in the past century. Filipinos are some of the friendliest and most fun-loving bunch of people you’ll ever meet.
To the chairman of Jung Ang Interventure Corp., a Korean company planning to construct a wellness spa, everything seemed to be in order. The company found a piece of land on a volcanic island in the Philippines, signed an agreement with the local government for joint undertaking, obtained an environmental compliance certificate last year and even received blessings from national tourism officials. Then, Kim Yoon ordered digging to begin on an access road to the proposed spa. The project was expected to generate 300 jobs.
