Salay town in Misamis Oriental celebrates Pineapple Harvest Festival

Cold winds and intermittent rains did not dampen the spirit of the farmers in Saray village of Salay town in the province of Misamis Oriental who celebrated their first Pineapple Harvest Festival last February 12, 2009.

Organized as Saray Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative, the farmers have availed of the PineappleGrow project under the ARBs Agribusiness Enterprise Development Program (AREDP) of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

The pineapple plantation in Saray covered 10 hectares with some 229 beneficiaries that include the members of the coop and nearby residents who found employment in the project as farm workers. (more…)

Baguio City expects the biggest crowd in the Panagbenga flower festival’s street dancing and floral float parade

The chairman of the executive committee of the Baguio Flower Festival Monday said that the city expects the biggest crowds in the on-going festivities during the grand streetdancing parade on February 22 and the floral float parade on March 1.

Anthony de Leon said with such expectations, all sectors here, especially the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), are now prepared for those big events which in the last 13 years have drawn a crowd at an average of one million.

He assured that because this year’s flower festival edition is timed for the city’s observation of 100th foundation anniversary.

“We see to it that several innovations will further make our streetdancing and float parade the best in 14 years,” de Leon said.

He said that aside from the hotels and restaurants’ readiness for the expected influx of visitors, the local police and volunteer groups have already conducted dry run in directing traffic flow, crowd control and the full security of the visitors and residents.

Kalibo plans for Ati-Atihan Festival 2010

The Kalibo Ati-Atihan Management Board (KAMB), inspired by the outcome of this year’s festival, envisions to have a grander, more successful event next year.

During a press conference here Monday, Mayor Raymar Rebaldo said they are planning to maximize the local tri-media and tap other resources to promote the festival in honor of its patron saint Sto. Nino.

The recently concluded Ati-atihan festival held last week saw thousands of revelers attending it that even the festival organizers were surprised to note that the Sunday procession which usually lasts for four hours only has extended to seven hours.

“The recent Ati-atihan is also successful because of the peace and order. There is no casualty during the revelry,” said Rebaldo.

Panagbenga 2009 launched in Kapihan Forum

Tough preparations are now being undertaken by the the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc (BFFFI) for the 14th year celebration of the” Panagbenga” which is slated on February 1 to March 8, 2009 here.

BFFFI ’09 Executive Committee co-chairmen, Anthony De Leon of Baguio Country Club and Frederico Alquiros of Camp John Hay, assured that despite the looming global financial crisis, they are will doing their best to come up with more, better and quality events with the assistance of their sponsors.

As part of the Baguio Centennial celebration, De Leon claimed the Panagbenga this year would have more and bigger events with lots of surprises for the locals and visitors to enjoy. Add to this the very cool temperature in the City that is expected to last until next month, that would be experienced by the local and foreign tourists.

During the launching of Panagbenga, Amboy Guevara, Chief of Staff for Panagbenga 2009, announced that the grand opening will be on February 1, with a parade, and Street Dancing Competition. There will also be a free concert at 6pm at the Melvin Jones Football Field, featuring an all female performer group from Manila called “Sani Pilif”. City of Cotabato prepares for Shariff Kabunsuan Festival 2008

The City Tourism Office in cooperation with the Department of Tourism Region XII, City Tourism Council headed by Bai Sandra Sema, Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Department of Trade and Industry XII and the Cotabato Grocers Association undertake continuous preparations for the coming 3-day celebration of the Shariff Kabunsuan Festival this December 17-19.

According to City Tourism Chairperson Mr. Benjie Abarca, activities include Parade, Guinakit Fluvial Parade & Cultural presentation, and Traditional Games & Sports such as Bangka Racing.

The Pagana Maguindanao will highlight the Inaul Fashion Show which will present the different designs of attire using the Inaul Malong considered as main product of Cotabato City.

Philippine Department of Tourism promotes Kalinga’s “Diddiga”, Buguias, Benguet’s “Alibay di Badang” festivals

The Department of Tourism (DOT-CAR) is promoting two festivals in the region – Kalinga’s “Diddiga” Festival and “Alibay di BADANG” of Buguias, Benguet.

DOT OIC Armi Legaspina, in a Kapihan forum Wednesday stressed that DOT supports LGUs and other related tourism organizations/associations in their tourism endeavors, such as these festivals, by way of marketing and promotion.

The province of Kalinga will be having a “Diddiga” Festival on October 26 to 30 as the Kalingas join the country in celebration of the Indigenous People (IP) month.

The Digdiga has five components, namely the “Sallidummay” Festival and Indigenous trade fair to celebrate the province’s pride of “identity”; The Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) Faura to respect and recognize the rights of the indigenous people; the Chico River Festival to protect the Chico River as a heritage site; and the Batok Festival – to relieve a vanished Traditional Art.
