Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu receives Green Hotel Standard Award

The Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa, Cebu was recently awarded the “ASEAN Green Hotel Standard”. The award was given in recognition of the resort’s compliance with environmentally friendly and energy conservation measures.

The ASEAN Green Hotel Standard is one of the six ASEAN tourism standards that the 10 ASEAN member countries of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam consider essential for helping the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to be a Quality Single Destination. One measure in the road map for integration of the tourism sector to realize the ASEAN economic community is the establishment of the ASEAN tourism standards. The ASEAN tourism standards task force is currently chaired by Thailand, through its Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and vice-chaired by Indonesia.

The Green Hotel Recognition Committee selected several hotels from each country based on the following criteria and requirements: Environmental policy and actions for hotel operation, use of green products, collaboration with the community and local organizations, human resource development, solid waste management, energy efficiency, water efficiency, air quality management (indoor and outdoor), noise pollution control, waste water treatment and management, and toxic and chemical substance disposal management. Almont Inland Resort: A wonderful experience in Butuan City

By: Carrie A. Javier
Photos By : Mary Villanueva

almont inland resortThe Philippine Airlines plane slowly descended upon rows of green fields and taxied to a stop in the small runway of Bancasi Airport in Butuan City. As we went down the steep stairs, I felt the weariness bearing down on me. I’ve heard the expression travel sore often enough and its hitting me now in full force, having woke up at five in the morning to catch this flight to Butuan City, Agusan del Sur.

My discomfort quickly vanished the moment I stepped into the welcoming ambiance of Almont Inland Resort, a mere 20 minutes from Bancasi Airport and only five minutes away from Butuan city center, near the Gaisano Shopping Mall.

butuan city resortThe cozy atmosphere instantly soothed my tired mind and body, the sumptuous lunch of fresh fish, sinigang broth and fruits in season lifted my spirit. Before long, I was raring to take a stroll around the four hectares of spacious grounds comprising the resort, and to take a dip in the inviting swimming pool with its splendid man-made waterfalls.

I noticed that each room has a spacious veranda overlooking either the swimming pool or the man made lake, quite beautiful in the evening, since both are illuminated by softly flickering torch lights reflected in the water. (more…)

Microtel Boracay Inns and Suites: Perfect Weekend Hideaway

Microtel Boracay’s Room with a View

Our second day in Boracay was a bit rainy. I was quite disappointed because I wanted to take photos of the beach without too much crowd and of course without the humid temperature.

After our breakfast, we were supposed to go Island Hopping but it was postponed and moved on the afternoon schedule due to heavy rains. While its raining everyone is in the lobby having a coffee overload, some are downloading photos, sharing blogging tips, sharing gossips (haha) and some are surfing the net. We waited till 10:00am then went straight to Tesebel’s Ihaw-Ihaw to have our early lunch. (more…)

Microtel Boracay : Travel Blogger’s Weekend Hideaway

boracay beach with pinoy travel bloggers

It was a sunny Friday when we left Manila Domestic Airport via South East Asian Airlines at around 8:30am. I was with a group of travel bloggers for a Boracay familiarization tour organized by Abe which was made possible by Microtel Boracay, Seair and Zuzuni Boutique Hotel and Restaurant.

After almost 35 minutes of Air Travel, I’m already seeing the Tropical Paradise Island of Boracay on a bird’s eye view from the Aircraft’s window which made me more excited.

Boracay Welcomes Abe, Marc, Gail, Ferdz and Anton

After almost 30 minutes of boat ride, Pinoy Travel Bloggers finally invaded Boracay, The Worlds most beautiful Island Paradise.

From Boracay Port, we headed to Diniwid Beach where Microtel is located. We immediately unpacked our things and went straight to their in house restaurant “al fresco” (fronting the pristine Diniwid Beach) to have our first meal of the day. Diniwid Beach is a 200-meter long stretch of powdery white sand Beach located on a secluded cove which is perfect for people who loves quiet and relaxing place to stay in Boracay.

After our power lunch, we decided to go to white beach by walking the beach trail which involves crossing a rocky cliff, a few nice bamboo inspired resorts and restaurants until we reached the boat station 1.

While walking along the beach shore from Microtel resort, we often stop to take photos of some interesting things our camera can focus on.

On a regular walk, you can actually reach boat station one for about 15-20 minutes but since we are enjoying the sceneries and several pit stops, it took us around an hour to reach the Willy’s Rock.

While walking, I invited them to try my favorite fruit shake at Jonah’s. Most of their ever popular flavors like strawberry, pineapple rum and yes banana choco peanut can be grabbed for only Php75 to Php150 each for a large 16oz glass. Unfortunately we were not able to locate Jonah’s Fruit shake and we ended up buying our shakes at a cozy restaurant near station 2.

After the fruit shake fever, we headed back to the hotel to have a power snap to prepare for our afternoon fun games hosted by Norsan of Microtel. While having fun, we stopped to capture Boracay’s beautiful sunset. Before our dinner started, Ted of Microtel showed us some of Microtel Prime Properties through a PowerPoint presentation.

Zuzuni Boracay Hotel and Restaurant

All the while after getting our Boracay itenerary, I thougt our second night dinner will be at a Japanese Restaurant. I was surprised when I found out that Zuzuni Boracay is actualy a Greek restaurant.

Zuzuni Boracay Hotel and Restaurant

Aileen, the tall and beautiful Zuzuni Hotel Manager explained to us why this boutique hotel and restaurant was named Zuzuni. Zuzuni is Greek word which means a “little insect” and it is a term of endearment for friends, family and pets just like how Ilonggo people use the word “Pangga”. Aside from the fun-sounding name the owners chosed Zuzuni because they are part Greek.

Here are some of the Greek foods that they cooked for us:

Melitzanes Tiganites and Tzatziki is composed of sliced fried eggplant in beer-ouzo batter deep fried and served with tzatziki

Tzatzik is yogurt, cucumber and garlic dip (best with Pita). Tzatziki is made of strained yoghurt with cucumbers (either pureed and strained or seeded and finely diced), garlic, salt and usually olive oil, sometimes vinegar, and dill, parsley or mint. Olive oil, olives, and herbs are often used as garnishes as well.

The resort is perfectly located in Boat Station One, fronting Boracay’s famous White Beach.  All rooms are equipped with hot and cold showers, TVs, hypoallergenic 100% cotton sheets and complimentary toiletries.
