Foreigners outnumbered local tourists in Boracay Island

Foreign tourists coming to the island resort of Boracay outnumbered local tourists early this year.

For the month of March alone the Provincial Tourism Operations Office (PTOO) in Aklan recorded a total of 62,970 tourists having visited Boracay Island.

Of the total number of visitors, 39,615 were foreign tourists while 23,355 were domestic tourists.

However, tourist arrival in March this year is lower compared to the same period in 2010 which earned the tourism industry revenues of some P1,157,602,698.

The PTOO believes the decrease in the number of visitors was due to the onset of rainfall spawned by the inclement weather prevailing elsewhere in the region during the first quarter of this year. (more…)

Capissaan Caves: From bat sanctuary to world-class tourist attraction

Migrant Ifugaos visit Capissaan Caves to catch fruit bats as a native delicacy but these caves in Barangay Capissaan in this town offer more than food to the native villagers.

“We only catch fruit bats a few meters inside its entrance, we did not know what really lies beyond the abode of the bats,” said Richie Angcuna, 23, a cave guide.

For years, the cave served as a source of fruit bats among the Ifugaos until a group of mountaineers and spelunkers of Sang-at Salug Outdoor Club(SSOC) and GAIA Mountaineering Club (GMC), while on an adventure search for alternative tourist attractions in the province, stumbled on its beauty. Regular flights to Vigan Ilocos Sur airport sought

Provincial officials and members of various multi-sectoral groups of the province are now discussing plans at the capitol seeking regular plane flights from Manila to Ilocos Sur and vice versa.

The meeting initiated by Governor Luis Chavit Singson aims to request existing airline companies to open regular flights to Vigan and vice versa in support of trade and tourism.

The plane from Manila will land at the Vigan Airport and take off from Vigan to Manila, loading passengers returning to the national capital after spending vacation in Ilocos Sur and other parts of the north.

Stressing the need for regular flights to Vigan, Governor Singson said tourists need a better, faster and more convenient means of transport in order to reach Vigan and other exciting destinations in the north.

He said businessmen wanting to expand to Vigan prefer to travel by air than on land, thus the need for regular flights from Manila to Vigan and vice versa using the Vigan airport. (more…)

Tips on Finding Holiday Villas

Finding a holiday villa can be difficult when you don’t know where to start looking. Of course, most people don’t want to spend their time looking through the yellow pages of strange cities they’ve never been to, maybe even in languages they’ve never learned to read or speak. Instead, the easy solution would seem to be turning to the internet.

However, all is not as simple as it first looks since when you search for ‘villas in Portugal‘ you end up coming up with nearly 13 million results using google! You’re better off with the foreign language phonebooks.

But don’t worry, here are some tips on finding holiday villas that will make your search far easier and more rewarding than taking a shot in the dark or throwing a virtual dart at the virtual dartboard of millions of worldwide listings and companies offering holiday villas in Italy.

First of all, research your location and narrow it down to the tiniest size possible. For example, don’t type “French Holiday Villas” but instead type in a more specific “Biarritz, France” +“Holiday villas” . The quotation marks indicate that the search engine should search for the whole phrase not the separated keywords which keeps you from finding something like ‘We left the villas burning after our patrol through Northern France, I dreamed of seeing Biarritz on my next holiday leave’ which, while sounding interesting, doesn’t really apply to you. We’ve narrowed our search down to four thousand entries. (more…)
