East Asian Real Estate investors eye Davao as retirement haven

Japanese and Korean investors are considering sites in Davao City for retirement villages of their foreign nationals.

Teolulo Pasawa, Department of Trade and Industry city director for Davao City in an interview said that these investors are just validating the areas even as he said that they already had registered their businesses at the Securities and Exchange Corporation (SEC).

He said the Japanese investor still has to conduct ocular on the recommended sites where the basic requirement is accessibility to medical facilities. (more…)

Philippine Eagle Center : Home of the World’s largest Eagle

It’s our second day in Davao and since we hired a Toyota Van, we decided to visit the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos Davao City. It has been more than five years since I last visited this park and I saw a lot of improvements.

The trees have grown and the place looks like a well maintained man made forest with a beautiful landscape. They constructed a film center where Philippine Eagle documentaries can be viewed, its intention is to build awareness for the conservation of “Haring Ibon” (Philippine Eagle). Read More >>

Winners of Kadayawan Festival 2008 Announced

After our Pasigarbo sa Sugbo Festival Coverage two weeks ago, I found myself in Davao covering one of the Philippines grandest festival – The Kadayawan sa Davao Festival.

This time aside from Nina and Eric, some of our co-founders of the SEAIR Adventure Club like Gail, Marc and Karla also joined us to witness the Mindanao’s “Festival of Festivals”.

This is not my first time to visit Davao, I was previously assigned in Davao with my past employer and have also covered several tourism related events in this city but Davao’s food, tourist spots and people makes me want to visit this city whenever i have a chance. (more…)

Davao Chinatown unveils Chinese arches

City officials led by City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will unveil the first of the two Chinese arches erected at the City’s Chinatown district.

The ceremony which will be held at 6 pm this Thursday (Aug. 21) will be attended also by the local Chinese-Filipino community particularly the Dabaw Kaisa Foundation and the members of the multi-sectoral Davao City Chinatown Development Coordinating Council.

Civic leader Leoncio Villa-Abrille, who is also a scion of a prominent Filipino-Chinese clan said that the arch to be unveiled will be the Friendship arch located at the corner of Magsaysay (Uyanguren) Avenue and Claveria. (more…)

Exciting Kadayawan Festival 2008 events set this week

The celebration continues to surge with exciting events and festivities in this week’s Kadayawan Festival.

Today, August 20 (Wednesday), catch cultural and dance performances starting with the Sayaw Mindanaw preliminary presentation for out-of-town groups at the SM City Davao Event Centre at 10 AM to 7 PM.

Witness our indigenous tribes as they showcase their wares and produce at Lumadnong Bantawan featuring Tribung Klata at Rizal Park and Tribung Maranao at Peoples’ Park from 10 AM to 12 NN, and Tribung Tausug at Rizal Park and Tribung Klata at Peoples’ Park from 3 to 5 PM.

Davao “Trail Seekers” getting ready to conquer Mt. Puting Bato

FOR new participants in the 3-category Puting Bato “Climbmathon” it will be new mountain trails to be discovered and some sights to behold atop the highest peak of the Island Garden City Of Samal (Igacos) of the Davao Region.

Mount Puting Bato is actually visible from the nearest neighboring city of Davao, just five minutes motorized banca drive from the nearest points from both sides of the dividing channel of the Davao Gulf.

The latest climb will be a three-category event for experts and new climbers and thrill-seeking adventure sports enthusiasts,Rey Sumagaysay, one of Davao’s most experienced climbers and event organizer, announced during the regular Tuesday forum of the Sports Communicators Organization of the Philippines (Scoop-Davao) at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, this city.

Sumagaysay said that open expert category climbers, both male and female, are now getting ready for the latest marathon climb that will have Punta del Sol as its venue for the fellowship night prior to their transport to Barangay Guilon for the start of the 5-kilometer speed trekking, uphill climb to the shining white Puting Bato on Saturday, August 16, 2008.
