Flight schedules set for Jan. 18 inauguration of new Bacolod-Silay Airport

All three major airlines – the Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines in the province confirmed normal flight schedules on January 18 when the P5.6-billion New Bacolod-Silay Airport is set to be inaugurated the same day.The last scheduled flight on the present Bacolod Airport is on January 17 and the first historic landing on the New Bacolod-Silay Airport is at 5:40 a.m. of Cebu Pacific, 6:15 a.m. of the Philippine Airlines and 7:00 a.m. of Air Philippines. butterfly garden mambucal resortBacolod City — The newly-renovated Butterfly Garden at the provincial government-owned Mambucal Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental is now open to the public after it was blessed and inaugurated during the weekend.

The butterfly garden displays the life cycle of butterflies, its different species as well as how they are fed and grown. Live predators of butterflies found at the resort like tarantula, wild geckos, scorpions, millipedes and centipedes, among others were also displayed for educational purposes. (more…)

Tour of Negros set

The 35th of Annual Cultural Tour of Negros Occidental will be held December 1, 8 and 15 this year.

The itinerary of the tour which starts 9 a.m. and ends 5:30 p.m. includes the Negros Forest and Ecological Foundation in Bacolod City, Bernardo Jalandoni House, Hofileña Heritage House and its art collection and printmaking workshop, and trip to outstanding delicacy sources in Silay City; Church of St. Joseph the Worker-Victorias City; Chapel of the Cartwheels-Manapla town; and an introduction to a new tourist attraction. This year, major streets in the city will be activated to be the site of various celebrations and events in addition to the city plaza. 5th street to the whole stretch of Lacson Street will be transformed to be the venue of Electric Masskara where bands and street parties are set. (more…)

bacolod masskara festival 2007BACOLOD CITY, — Preparations are underway for this year’s MassKara Festival  2007 in Bacolod City slated next month.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the festival will kick off on October 1 with daily activities and programs.

Its highlights will be on October 18 to 21.

Information dissemination and awareness about Bacolod’s tourism, economic and investment attractions and potentials, as well as the MassKara street dancing and other activities are being undertaken by the festival organizer, the Silver MassKara Festival Organization, Inc. (more…)

New Bacolod-Silay Airport declared “technically-ready” to operate

bacolod airport philippinesSilay City, Negros Occidental – No less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo announced during her opening statement in the Central Visayas Infra Conference that the New Bacolod-Silay Airport is “technically-ready” to operate anytime.

The President explained as to why the P4.3 billion airport is named as such stating that it it got the Silay name since it is located in Silay and Bacolod since in all the international codes, Bacolod is used.

Despite the absence 500 meter extension runway, the 2,000 meter runway of the new airport is good based on the forecasted traffic until 2020 according to project manager of the New Bacolod-Silay Airport Edgardo Mangalili of the Department of Transportation and Communication. (more…)
