Cebu Pacific stated that, apart from being the number one domestic carrier in the Philippines, it now leads local airlines in serving ASEAN, offering 92 direct weekly services on the most number of ASEAN routes and destinations from the Philippines.

“Our ASEAN service has topped the industry without counting help from other airlines through code shares, and we expect to grow both domestic and international services further this year and beyond as we take delivery of more aircraft,” said Cebu Pacific President and CEO, Lance Y Gokongwei.

He said the JG Summit airline business unit offers a total of 92 weekly services on nine routes to six ASEAN destinations, namely, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh (Saigon), and Hanoi. The competition has only 78 weekly services to three cities on three routes to the Philippines.

Outside ASEAN, Cebu Pacific also operates to Taipei, Hong Kong, Macau, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Seoul, Pusan, and will add several more destinations this year.

“The past twelve months has been a terrific growth period for us as we expanded into Asia not only from Manila but from our Cebu and Davao hubs as well. Its quite noteworthy that the top seven growth areas for tourist arrivals in 2007 are areas where Cebu Pacific started or expanded operations over the past year and we believe this is because of our trademark low fares,” he said.

Based on a recent UBS Investment Research report (Jan-Sep-7), domestic air travel passenger growth for the Philippines grew by 23%, growing even faster than China, which registered a 16% growth rate.

“As the leading domestic carrier in the Philippines, we are very proud of this because we know that we are able to effectively bring air travel closer to more Filipinos. This has always been our vision as an airline and we intend to continue with our expansion in order to bring our low fares to more people,” he added.

Cebu Pacific is to take delivery of four A320s and six ATR 72-500 aircraft this year for further service expansion of its domestic and international network. It currently has ten A319s and five A320s. The first of six turbo-prop ATRs will be delivered in Feb-08 to serve short runways like Caticlan (Boracay), among others.

The schedule was furnished to PIA by the Department of Transportation and Communication and was confirmed as of January 11, 2008 by the respective airline representatives. DOTC however stressed that such schedule may change without prior notice and therefore advises the clients of the different airlines to confirm their flight schedules with their respective airlines or travel agents prior to their scheduled flight.

The flying public is also advised to check in at least two hours before their scheduled flight.

From the present airport in Bacolod City, it takes approximately an hour travel at 60kph during a light-moderate traffic situation but the flying public should consider extra time in going to the new airport in Brgy. Bagtic in Silay City.

DOTC will also install road signages and arrows leading to the New Bacolod-Silay Airport along the 4.7-kilometer of the McKinley Road to guide those coming to the new airport.

Cebu Pacific has ordered four more turbo-prop ATR 72-500 aircraft that will be used for smaller airports, such as Caticlan (Boracay), bringing to ten its total firm orders worth more than USD178 million.

Lance Gokongwei, Cebu Pacific President, said the additional aircraft will allow the airline to serve more cities whose runways are too short for its Airbus fleet.

“This is a huge confidence vote for the Philippines, for our tourism sector, and our business model as a provider of quality service at affordable fares. It is also a signal to the flying public that our service and the business opportunities we help generate are now at their doorsteps,” he said.

The Philippines has seventy five airports, of which only about twenty five can accommodate Cebu Pacific’s Airbus fleet.

Areas with smaller airports, like Caticlan, will likely experience a business boom as the 72-seat ATRs bring in more tourists and businessmen, Mr Gokongwei said. The Caticlan service will commence on 29-Feb-08, using the LCC’s first ATR.

“Our expanding service will unlock the beauty and natural wealth of our archipelago. We have hubs in Manila, Cebu and Davao and hopefully Clark. All of these can be staging points for travel to what up to now are largely inaccessible destinations,”he added.

Cebu Pacific announced earlier its acquisition of up to fourteen ATR aircraft consisting of six firm orders and eight options. This is in addition to the up to 20 Airbus aircraft, worth USD1.3 billion, it announced last year.

Cebu Pacific will take delivery of the first six ATRs in 2008 and four in 2009. The airline will also take delivery of four A320 aircraft in 2008, bringing the airline’s fleet to twenty five by the end of 2008.

“From our current fleet of 15 Airbus aircraft, we could have a fleet of up to 50 aircraft composed of 32 Airbus and 18 ATR by the end of 2012 if all options are converted into firm orders,” Mr Gokongwei said.

Now in its 12th year, Cebu Pacific has the youngest fleet of aircraft in the Philippines. The LCC operates to 12 international and 21 domestic destinations.

Cebu Pacific is offering P1 (USD0.02) one-way fares on all its domestic destinations for travel from 01-Jan-08 and 12-Mar-08. The airline has allocated more than 100,000 seats for the sale.

The one-way fare, which can be purchased between 28-Nov-07 and 02-Dec-07 (or until seats are sold out) is exclusive of fuel and insurance surcharges, ranging from P900 (USD21 to USD34), one-way.

Cebu Pacific has been offering seat sales to encourage more passengers, especially new flyers, to travel.

“We want air travel to be a common occurrence that most people can now experience because of our year-round fares and occasional seat sales. This is part of our goal to promote travel and tourism in and to the Philippines,” said Candice Ivog, Vice President for Marketing and Product.

In Sep-07, Cebu Pacific also offered P1 fares to mark its rise to being the country’s leading domestic carrier.

Civil Aeronautics Board data showed that domestic passenger traffic in the first nine months of the year grew 23% to 7.69 million, aided by the aggressive pricing strategies of local airlines, with Cebu Pacific leading the industry.

“Because of our year-round low ‘Go’ fares, our occasional promotional seat sales, and our expanding capacity and number of destinations, we expect to carry more than 5 million passengers this year,” Ms Ivog stated.

Cebu Pacific took delivery of its 15th A320 aircraft last month and expects its first ATR-72 aircraft in Feb-08. The airline will also take delivery of four more A320s and four ATRs next year.

Business leader Mary Ann Montemayor said they encourage more airlines to fly from Davao to other parts of the world to increase more tourists.

She said this will help the industry especially when there will be continuous access with the BIMP EAGA where some aircrafts are considering.

“This is a very laudable move,” she stressed.

In a earlier report Cebu Pacific Air announced on Monday through its president and chief executive officer Lance Y. Gokongwei of the company’s plan to make the city a hub.

It will field an Airbus A-319 aircraft, a 150 seater plane at the Davao International Airport in order to intensify its promotion of the city as a third hub.

Davao will be the airline’s hub after Manila and Cebu as Gokongwei said Davao could become a major tourist destination in the asian region.

Flights between Davao and Hong Kong and Davao and Singapore are all via Cebu.

Meanwhile Philipine Airlines (PAL) senior vice president for Mindanao Atty Domingo Duerme said they are looking into the Davao HongKong route which Cebu Pacific has started.

But he said the plan is still being studied as to the market, availability of aircrafts, and profitability.

He said if they open that route it would be ideal for a direct route at twice weekly frequency.

“Kaya lang medyo manipis ang traffic that’s why it is still being carefully studied,” he said.
