International press hail RP dive sites’ diversity

The Philippine Department of Tourism’s (DOT) relentless campaign to promote the country’s dive sites has gained unprecedented exposure worldwide, easily winning and capturing the attention of professional divers.

The Philippines has likewise landed consistently on prominent lists of top dive sites in the whole world because of century old wrecks, mating mandarin fish, threatening thresher sharks, meter-long giant clams.

These are just some of the reasons why professional divers from the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) are getting more and more drawn to the Philippines’ underwater paradise.

“With over 60 registered sites spread out in our islands, the country has one of the most diverse highlights for diving,” said Tourism Secretary Ace Durano. (more…)

After an exhilarating evening race in Camotes Island, we left the island for an overnight stop in Danao City. In Danao City, we were served one the best dinner we’ve ever had in the entire race. Imagine fresh Tuna sashimi and Cebu’s finest lechon – Anthony Bourdain once said “Its the best roasted pig in the world” well who doesnt agree?.

From Toledo City we left for San Carlos city at around 7am and after almost two hours, we finally arrived in San Carlos City. DBP RoRo Race 2009 Experience

I was invited to cover last years DBP RoRo race but unfortunately i was scheduled to visit and conquer Batanes so I had to take a rain check. A couple of months ago, I was invited again by Blooey to cover and experience the yearly Interisland race sponsored by the Development Bank of the Philippines.

Shorter travel time, Safer trip, lower cost make more passengers prefer to take Ro-Ro vessels

More passengers going to Metro Manila now prefer to take the roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessels because of their convenience, shorter travel time and lower cost.

Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) Regional Director Mary Ann Armi Z. Arcilla said that since the Strong Republic Nautical Highway (SRNH), which is a pet project of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, was established and inaugurated, many passengers from Iloilo City to Metro Manila have preferred to travel by it.

Arcilla said that the passengers from Iloilo City traveling the SRNH are enjoying the combined bus and Ro-Ro vessel trips along the provinces of Antique and Caticlan, Aklan and Roxas, Mindoro to Batangas City and finally to Pasay and Cubao.

In Caticlan, Aklan, there are three Ro-Ro vessels owned by Montenegro Lines, Starlight and Phil. Harbor that ply the Eastern Link 24 hours. (more…)

Team Summer Breezers Leads in DBP Roro Race Siargao Leg

Our Manila – Siargao flight schedule was too late for us to catch the first leg of DBP Roro Race 2009 which was held in Siargao Island.

Siargao Island, Surigao, home to the top surfing wave “Cloud Nine,” is dubbed as the surfing capital of the Philippines, and is a venue for international surfing events.

Gen. Luna, Siargao, served as the first stop in the “Ready Set, RORO” DBP Interisland Race, an action-packed P1M adventure race. The Development Bank of the Philippines kicked off the opening festivities with a motorcade and a brief program graced by Surigao del Norte governor Robert Ace Barbers and DBP President and CEO Reynaldo G. “Ready, Set, RORO!” DBP Interisland Race set on May 15-20

Race around the Philippines and win P1 million in the fourth run of the Development Bank of the Philippines’ “Ready, Set, RORO!” DBP Interisland Race.

The ”Ready-Set-RORO!” DBP Interisland Race – Year 4 is set to be an action-packed, hot summer adventure race that will feature favorite and interesting summer island destinations in the country using the Road Roll-on, Roll-off (RORO) Terminal System (RRTS) — a nationwide transport system that significantly reduces the cost of travel for passengers.

The RRTS is a major component of the Bank’s Sustainable Logistics Development Program that is aimed at modernizing the country’s infrastructure and logistics system for the efficient transport of passengers and basic commodities. (more…)
