Direct Kalibo international flights boost tourism arrivals

The Civil Aviations Authority of the Philippines-Kalibo (CAAP-Kalibo) is confident that there will be more developments for the Kalibo International Airport (KIA) as having direct flights from international destinations, has boosted the tourism industry.

Engr. Percy Malonesio, said that he is having meetings in Iloilo seeking for the improvement of the KIA.

According to the report of the Malay Tourist Office, from Jan. to July of this year tourists arrivals continue to rise hitting the 424,493 mark.

Of the said figure, at least 110,432 were foreign nationals while 295,968 served as Filipino tourists and 18,093 were Overseas Filipino Workers.

Koreans remained the top visitor with 40,730 while 13,360 Chinese tourists followed by 10,463 Taiwanese. The KIA now received direct chartered flights coming from Korea, China and Taiwan.

Because of the said developments, Malonesio said that there is now a large possibility that other airline companies would also soon offer direct flights coming from other destination countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, among others.

Aside from Asian countries, Boracay Island is also popular to European and American tourists based on the records of the local tourism office.
