Golgotha in Dolores is Abra’s lenten tourist destination

“Golgotha in Dolores” is Abra’s attraction to tourists this Lenten season and hopes to generate jobs and incomes to families around the project site.

The project is located in Bantay Itlog (named after the egg-shape formation of the hill) in Brgy. Lublubba, the highest point in the municipality of Dolores. Three crosses are put up on top of the hill to remind us, catholic devotees, of the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation of mankind.

One can clearly see from atop the hill, the whole of Abra province especially the scenic giant-snake-like Abra River criss-crossing the valleys of Abra and the destructions made on the farmlands along its bank.

Since the Crosses are erected on top of the hill, the countless devotees of the Cross are given a chance to do a pilgrimage there especially during the Lenten season.

As President Arroyo says, “Tourism creates jobs”, the construction of the project which started on February 14, 2009 had employed local labor force. An initial funding of P40,000 was provided by three elderly citizens in the town namely. Marino Trinidad, a retired provincial director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG); Mr. Basaliso Pascua, the provincial federation president of the Senior Citizens of Abra and also a retired director of the DILG-Abra; and Mr. Ceferino Trinidad, a former barangay captain of Brgy. Lublubba and the owner of the lot where the project is located.

Some relatives of the gentlemen are now pitching in their resources to further improve the vicinity of the project site since the place is now being developed as a tourist attraction. Bamboo benches have been put up at the foot of the hill where there are plenty of trees that serve as shade and resting place before and after going up the hill.

The project was formally opened to the public on April 1, 2009 after the blessing and inauguration led by Rev. Mervyn Flint Elveña, parish priest of Dolores.
