Bicol’s latest tourist attraction, “Lago del Rey” (King’s Lake), a sprawling man-made lake located beside the world-class Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC) here that will offer affordable family watersports entertainment, is set to open Thursday with the Aqua Fest Celebrity Challenge to be graced by a star-studded cast of showbiz personalities.

Another brainchild of Governor LRay Villafuerte, Lago del Rey, is a tourist facility intended to balance CWC’s extreme sports attraction, with a venue for wholesome family watersports activities including, giant water slides, aqua wall climbing, water polo, water volleyball, kayaking, aqua obstacle course, paddle boarding, sailing, rowing, water tubing, boat-towed wake boarding, wake kite and skiing, dragon boating, and swimming.

Lago del Rey will also have a Kids’ Activity Center that will provide suitable water-oriented sports and entertainment activities for children.

The opening of the newest tourist attraction here Thursday is expected to be graced by showbiz personalities consisting of Richard Gomez, Anne Curtis, Marian Rivera, Joey Maquez, John Estrada, Priscilla Meirelles, Bobby Yan, Bubbles Paraiso, Michelle Madrigal, Raymund Gutierrez, Say Alonzo, Kapuso (GMA) and Kapamilya (ABS-CBN) stars and others.

They will try out the Lago del Rey’s amenities with the three-day Aqua Fest’s Celebrity Challenge slated Feb. 26-28, which will feature a variety of water-based contests and a vast arrays of entertainment.

Lago del Rey is expected to further boost Camarines Sur’s growing reputation as a tourism haven in the country. The province hosts two other world-renowned tourist spots, the CWC here and the Gota Village Resort in Caramoan Peninsula.

Governor Villafuerte said he expects tourist arrivals in Camarines Sur to increase by some 50 percent with the opening of Lago del Rey.

Observers believed that Villafuerte’s innovative and bold tourism thrusts will make the province as Asia’s watersports capital.
