It’s rainy in Cebu but the downpour did not dampen the racers’ spirits in Ready-Set-RORO DBP Interisland Race 2008, as the nine remaining teams rallied forward to their next challenge.

It was barely morning when the teams were released from the Lite Shipping ferry with their Oakley bags in tow. Their clue was a 50-peso bill pointing them towards the Puente Osmeña Circle.

There they found another clue that instructed them to proceed to Colon St. with a sentence to be translated in Cebuano, after which they headed on to the pit stop at DBP Cebu.

Mr. Boy Dagondon, head of the Development Bank of the Philippines’ Super Region Management Office Central Philippines II, welcomed the racers to Cebu, stating, “Cebu is a province of heritage and history, and all the sights you need to see are accessible via existing infrastructures, such as the RORO.”

DBP Cebu oversees the implementation of its Sustainable Logistics Development Program, making sure that the RORO infrastructures are in place for transport.

“The RORO changed the lives of the people in Cebu, in hastening the travel time from Cebu to the neighboring islands,” adds Dagondon. “It is alsoh less costly to move goods across the islands, allowing greater participation from the agricultural areas.”

Team Apo with schoolmates Cams Lozano and Kynz Flores and Beatriz Saw, rallied to the finish, banking on a concentrated effort from the team members and Kynz’ familiarity with the area.
“It wasn’t easy, and most of it was an exhausting foot race,” reports Kynz. “We weren’t the first team released, or the first team out of Puente Osmeña, but I’ve spent a lot of time in Cebu so I was familiar with the pit stop, and we made up for lost time there.”

Team Anahaw, with dating students Chad Venades and Roxy Barrios with Charee Pineda, unfortunately got rolled off.

“We wanted to go on further but things didn’t work our way,” Roxy asserts. “But it was a fun experience, certainly one we’ll never forget.”
