Smart Communications Inc. sponsors 10th Tuna festival

The country’s leading wireless services provider Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) recently signed an agreement with the local government of General Santos City delegating it as the exclusive telco partner of the city’s 10th Tuna Festival, slated on August 29 - September 7, 2008.

According to Smart’s Public Affairs Group head Mon Isberto, “We are proud to be Gensan’s partner in the celebration of the Tuna Festival, and we are excited to continue contributing to the prosperity of this city.”

Gensan, the economic hub of the Soccsksargen growth area, is one of the country’s most competitive medium-sized cities, with business investments from both here and abroad pump-priming its economy.

The yearly Tuna Festival puts in focus the main product of Gensan, the TUNA and one of its people’s major livelihood, fishing. For its 10th incarnation, the festival theme is: A decade of FISH-tivities and opporTUNAties.

The telecoms giant will take part in all the official festival events, which includes among others, the Karagatan Awards at the KCC Convention Hall on August 31, the finals night of the Search for Miss Gensan 2008 Pageant at the Gaisano Mall Atrium on September 5, and the much-awaited Tuna Festival Float Parade on September 5.

Smart is also flying in the rock band Kamikazee, who composed the wacky Smart Buddy jingle “Me na Me”, for a big FREE concert at the Oval Plaza on September 5, the festival’s culmination day, according to SMART Media liaison Haydee Bernabe.

A raffle will be held for those who will buy a Smart Buddy SIM at the venue and load P15. Smart Buddy prepaid handsets will be up for grabs.

Smart’s participation in the Tuna Festival this year again is its commitment to Gensan’s development, with cutting-edge communication and information technology infrastructure that redounds to the benefit of both the local residents and visitors.
