The Department of Tourism (DOT) region 2 hosted a 3-day Grand Amianan Expo 2008, the biggest business and tourism fair in Northern Luzon held at Brickstone Mall here recently.

The 3-day trade fair was organized by the Mediaworx International Corporation, a private entity which invited participants from all over Northern Luzon including Manila where they promoted their tourism industry and showcased their local products, services and travel packages.

Regional Director Blessida G. Diwa said tourism is one of the biggest industry in the Philippines today as it contributes much to the economy of the country.

During the opening program, Diwa challenged the participants to be tourism promoters and help government agencies promote the tourist destinations of the region to pave way for more businesses, jobs and livelihood programs for the benefit of the people.

In the Cagayan Valley Region alone there were about 649,000 tourists arrivals which generated some P1.5 million pesos this year alone, Diwa said.

“When one foreign tourist visits our place, it means one job may open and when tourism advances, poverty retreats. So let’s all be aggressive in promoting tourism because we are blessed with land of beauty and land of opportunity,” Diwa said

On the other hand, Atty. Joseph Pauig, the provincial governor’s Chief of Staff and City Administrator Miguel Lim expressed their support to the Grand Amianan Expo as part of the economy of the region.
