Davao del Norte’s Kadagayaan Festival opens

The Kadagayaan 2008 Festival opened here yesterday (June 23) amidst pomp and pageantry at the sprawling RDR Gym Grounds, marking the opening of the weeklong celebration of the 41st Araw ng Davao del Norte.

Rodolfo del Rosario will lead the opening program today along with the province’s key officials and guests from the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism and Department of Agriculture.

The much-anticipated agri-industrial trade fair will showcase the province’s unique and novel products, one-town-one-product display, goat coops display, entertainment and basking performances and agri-business forum.

This year’s anniversary theme, “Accelerating Growth and Reforms through the RDR Wheels,” plays up the agenda of Governor Del Rosario as an all-encompassing vehicle in alleviating poverty and achieving the vision for Davao del Norte to become a premier province.

We enjoin everyone to come and experience our very own Kadagayaan Festival which is the kick-off activity of the Araw ng Davao del Norte,” Del Rosario said.

After the opening rites, a media forum dubbed as ‘Kapihan sa Kadagayaan’ will be held at the same venue with no less than Governor Del Rosario as guest.

Meantime, Provincial Sport Coordinator and the Governor’s executive assistant Anthony del Rosario will open the Fellowship Sports basketball tournament in the afternoon at the capitol grounds. Teams from nearby Compostela Valley, Diocesan Clergy, PCL Legislators, Davao Sportswriters Association and Davao del Norte Press Club have been invited.

Capping the day is the cultural show ‘Lingaw-lingaw sa Kagab-hion’, which will be the nightly spotlight of the week-long festival featuring song and dance contests and presentations and Battle of the Bands.

highlights of the week-long festival include, among others:

Sikad sa Kinaiyahan, which aims to draw advocacy for the environment on June 24; Health Day at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan on June 25; Dog Show on June 26; Talakayan and RDR WHEELS Adventure Race on June 27; 7th Banakon Race Challenge, Job Fair, RDR Cup Karatedo Competition and Motorcross Series on June 28; 7th Banakon Race continuation, Pacquiao-Diaz live viewing, Entre-Pinoy Jewelry-Making, and RDR Cup Karatedo Championship on June 29; and, Alay Lakad ’08 and Thansgiving Mass on June 30.

A Float and Mascot Parade and Festival of Festivals Anniversary Program will conclude the week-long celebration in July 1.
