In her provincial sorties lately, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is actively egging on Filipinos to vote for the country’s natural landmarks to be included in this worldwide search.

As of May 23, three of the Philippines’ natural wonders were included in the “Magic 10″ rankings of this global search. These are the Tubbataha Reef, off the east coast of Palawan in the No. 7 spot; Chocolate Hills in Bohol, no. 9; and the Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, No. 10.

Number one in the search is Ha Long Bay in Vietnam; followed by Cox’s Bazar Beach in Bangladesh, Ganges River in India, the Amazon River in South America and Mount Everest in Nepal.

In No. 6 slot is Mount Fuji in Japan, followed by Tubbataha Reef in Palawan, Cocos Island in Costa Rica; Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

About 200 nominations were submitted by half a million of people within the first few months of this second search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature campaign organized by a non-profit Switzerland-based New7Wonders Foundation.

The nomination is slated to end on December 31, 2008. Then a panel of experts would come up with a short list of 21 candidates from which voters worldwide can vote the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
