Subic-Clark-Tarlac expressway cuts travel time by 80%

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is scheduled to inaugurate on Tuesday morning the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway which will cut the travel time by up to 80%. The travel time cut is about 40 minutes from Clark to Subic and 25 minutes from Clark to Tarlac.

This is indeed good news for the motorists who will now have speedy, comfortable travel to North and Central Luzon.

But here is another good news. For motorists who will be spending the Holy Week in the North, they will enjoy crossing the new 93.77-kilometer Expressway for free during the entire Holy Week, Secretary Ignacio Bunye informed.

The SCTEx free trial opening for light vehicles will start on March 18, from 1:00 o’clock to 5:30 in the afternoon only. From March 19-24, the offer will start at 5:30 in the morning to 5:30 in the afternoon only.

The light vehicles allowed are Type 1 vehicles; tourist and chartered buses; and motorcycles 400 cc and above.

The new Expressway which starts at the Tipo junction in Subic and ends in Tarlac, was conceptualized by President Arroyo as early as 2001 to enhance seaport-airport synergy, Secretary Bunye said in his View fro the Palace.

A major component of the Luzon Urban Beltway Super Region Program of President Arroyo, the SCTEx will serve as a new economic backbone for growth areas north of Metro Manila.

SCTEx is now the longest tollroad at 94 kilometers and it will serve as a critical link to vital infrastructure such as the seaports in Subic and the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Clark.

This will open up investment and employment opportunities in the Region and ensure faster delivery of goods and services.

After Holy Week, the SCTEX will be closed to enable the contractor to make corrections and rectification works and to complete an overpass in Concepcion, Tarlac, which is being built to give an alternate route for the carabaos and tricycles of farmers in the area.

It will be officially opened by the third or fourth week of April.

After the Clark-Subic road, President Arroyo plans to connect the NLEX southwards with the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) via Commonwealth Avenue and Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City, and extend the NLEX northwards to Rosario, La Union via the towns of La Paz and Gerona in Tarlac.
