In celebration of the month of February as the National Arts Month, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the City Government of Tacloban and the Holy Infant College have cooperated to spearhead and stage the “Ani ng Sining ng Leyte” Performing Arts Festival on February 23, 2008 at the Rizal Park in Tacloban City.
The “Ani ng Sining ng Leyte” Performing Arts Festival which will be held at 6:00 o’clock in the evening will showcase the bountiful harvest in the Arts of the province of Leyte and will feature performing artists led by one of the Philippines’ world renowned dance companies, the Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company, and the National Youth Commission’s 2008 National Nominee and Regional Awardee to the Search for Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations, the U.P. An Balangay Performing Arts Group.
Also slated to perform are child soloist Rosary Cinco Padilla, Tolosa Church Choir, the Shades of Gray, Asian Development Foundation Violin Ensemble, Redemptorist Youth Choir, Holy Infant College Nightingales and other equally talented groups.
The public is invited to watch the Performing Arts Festival together with their families because it is one way of rekindling nationalism and love for the culture and the arts of the province of Leyte.
The celebration of the month of February as the National Arts Month began in 1991 through Presidential Proclamation No. 683, with the activities spearheaded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts or NCCA.
Every year, the NCCA works hand in hand with arts and culture organizations, local government units, educational institutions, business establishments, and individuals in holding various initiatives in the arts.
Now on its sixteenth year, the National Arts Month celebration with the theme “Ani ng Sining” has evolved from a Manila-centered activity, to a truly national event with key activities in all three major island groups – Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao.
Involving hundreds of artists from the different disciplines of arts and reaching thousands of people from all walks of life. The National Arts Month is truly a festival of the Filipino people to involve their participation in “Celebrating a Bountiful Harvest in the Arts.”
