I agree that you can run into some people experience small inconveniences and some of that stems from Montezumas revenge.
Even though many tourist destinations have successfully eliminated the major causes of this dreaded malady, you still must be your own guard dog.
Make sure all the water you drink, brush your teeth with and do dishes with is filtered for amoeba.
