With the advent of tourism industry growth in Region 8 because of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s super region concept of development, the Department of Tourism and the Department of Foreign Affairs are jointly conducting a seminar-workshop on protocol and social graces on October 11-12 at the SMED Center in Tacloban City.

Under President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s super region concept of development, the Region belongs to Central Philippines which is envisioned to become the Tourism Center of the country.

Thus, the Eastern Visayas Region is now bracing itself in order to be ready when the multi million dollar tourism ventures which will attract tourists to the Region, start operations.

The seminar will hopefully prepare the tourism stakeholders in the Region to be able to give a world-class service to the local and foreign tourists.

DOT 8 Director Karina Rosa Tiopes informed that the seminar workshop which form part of the activities lined up for the October scheduled Leyte Province Business Month, is designed to provide an overview of diplomatic practice, order of precedence and diplomatic ceremony and to familiarize the participants with the different types of arrangements and requirements for social functions.

A full grasp of protocol and social graces is essential if the local tourism stakeholders are to meet the internationally-accepted standards of service to the clients and visitors of the Region. Thus, the tourism industry stakeholders, the city and provincial tourism officers, the private sector representatives and the academe are the target participants in the said seminar workshop.

The seminar workshop is also aimed at teaching the participants the different phases of events management and provide them with a venue to apply the acquired skills in a simulated social function.

High caliber speakers and guests are expected to come to the province for this seminar workshop. Among them are Director Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia of the Foreign Service Institute, Ambassador Fortunato D. Oblena who will be the speaker on Protocol, Ms. Franzina F. Yulo who will speak on Social graces, Ms. Eivette P. Lagman who is the head of the Special Program Unit, Mr. Hope Tomilla and Mr. Astro Marasigan who are both protocol officers.
