New Resort Project in the Island Garden City of Samal links up with community
Davao City – The developer of a high-end resort residence project in a beach resort setting in barangay San Isidro of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) is also working with the local folks on environment protection program and livelihood program for the women.
FLI is developing initially a 50 hectares residential site named Kembali Coast, a leisure-residential development in Mindanao with a beach facility anchor in Samal City.
Kembali Coast carries an Asian Island – Balinese theme with accents on hyping its beach ambiance.
It offers 400 lots to home buyers and each lot is about 700 sq. m. per area. It carries a deed of restrictions where the house must only be nine meters in height to be built within 150 sq. m. to maintain the greenery as well as maintain and add value of the subdivision.
The site has 1.8 kilometers beach line accessible to all homeowners, a perfect gateaway and good for water sport activities with exclusive classy appeal of high end resort living and private week-end enclave.
Tristan Las Marias, vice president for regional operations of Filinvest Land, Inc. (FLI) in an interview said their community outreach program is being worked out hand in hand with the local government of Samal City.
Las Marias said their initial talk with IGaCoS Mayor Aniano Antalan has led to a strong partnership where FLI committed to support the city’s campaign of strengthening their “Bantay Dagat” program.
In an earlier dialogue with the fisherfolks of barangay San Isidro, Geraldine de Gorostiza, FLI business development manager said that they (fisherfolks) raised their concern against the “Basnig” where big fishing boats enters municipal waters depriving the fisherfolks of their daily catch.
She said the fisherfolks raised a serious concern during the dialog with their difficulty in getting good catch due to the scarcity of fishes in the area.
Las Marias said based on the study of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on the status of the corrals in the site it would need massive rehabilitation.
Together with the lgu he said is to develop first the reefs, then strengthen advocacy against illegal fishing and seed varieties of fishes in the fish sanctuary that will be designated within the area.
“This will help fisherfolks on their livelihood as well as develop their sense of ownership with the project,” he said.
Las Marias likened Samal to the Mactan of Cebu and eventually will strengthen its tourism where Samal anchors its main economic activities.
Aside from the project Las Marias said that Kembali Coast would also need workers and they will get people from the city to man the resort.
But he said this is an area also that both the city and FLI will look into as Las Marias said that the skills level of people must be improved.
He said there has to have skills training program to make employable residents of Samal meet quality standards.
“We need some 50 workers for the resort outside of the unskilled labor that will be needed when the resort will be constructed,” he said.
Microfinancing for women is another area that they are considering for this sector to get assistance for their small businesses, he said.
“These are concerns that we are working because other than just investing on the place for people who would want a second home we also prepare and help the community on livelihood as well on social concerns,” he said.
He said as they embark on expanding real property ventures in Mindanao their CRS endeavor (corporate social responsibility) is a part of their priorities. (PIA XI)
