chi spa edsa shangri-la Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotel group, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, has announced its foray into the growing spa market with the launch of its newest Chi Spa Location. The first CHI spa opened at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok in July 2004 and now an additional SpaÂ in Edsa Shangri-la.Â

Designed to create a sanctuary of tranquility inspired by the legend of ‘Shangri-La,’ CHI features some of the largest and most luxurious private spa suites and villas. It offers a range of specialised body, water, massage and facial therapies based on the ancient healing traditions, philosophies and rituals of China and the Himalayas.

The PresidentÂ Gloria Macapagal ArroyoÂ led the opening rites by striking a gong three times to officially open the Chi Spa yesterday June 16,2007.

The Chi Spa concept was developed in collaboration with a team of recognized experts in traditional Chinese medicine and Himalayan healing philosophies.

The Chi Spa offers over 30 specialized body massage and facial therapies, with an exclusive product range created based on the Chinese philosophy of the five elements of metal, water, wood, fire and earth working in balance with the yin and yang energy within the body.

Drawing inspiration from the Philippines healing traditions, the menu also features the “Hilot” (a healing massage based on time-honored Filipino folk medicine that has survived the ages) and “Dagdagay” (a traditional foot massage using bamboo sticks employed by indigenous mountain tribes in the Philippines).

The Edsa Shangri-La Chi Spa is the second to open in the country. The first was the Chi Spa in Shangri-La Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Cebu which was inaugurated in June 2005.
