On the day that our very own Manny Pacquiao was having his big fight with Jorge Solis of Mexico, and most of the Filipinos were convening to watch the boxing fight, the whole dragonboat community had its own race to finish.Last April 15, on a very summery hot and humid day in Manila Bay, Baywalk, Manila, the Year 2006-07 PDBF Annual Dragon Boat Regatta had a successful conclusion headed by PDBF Technical Director Mr. Nestor Ilagan and officiated by the Men’s & Women’s National Team.
29 affiliated teams of Philippine Dragon Boat Federation competed for the 4th Leg and Annual Championship race. 17 Men’s Team, 10 Women’s Team & 4 Collegiate teams raced to the finals to clinched the much-coveted OverAll Champions for the recently concluded dragonboat season.
The Annual Championship is presented with the help of Bull Fighter Energy Drink and sponsored in part by Victoria Court. The quarterly regatta is recognized and supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, City of Manila and Hon. Arnold “Ali†Atienza, Chairman of the Manila Sports Council and Presidential Assistant for Youth and Sports.
4th Leg Regatta Champions are Camarines Sur Paddlers Club (Men’s Open 500m), PNP Patriots (Women’s Open 500m), and UST Tigers (Inter-Collegiate 500m).
Overall annual top winners are PNP Patriots (Men’s Division), PNP Patriots (Women’s Division), and UST Tigers (Inter-Collegiate).
