When to wear Sandals?

Hello there! Are you now planning for your next Summer Vacation in the Philippines? Checkout our list of Hotels in the Philippines for your accommodation needs.

Bringing Sandals for your trip is probably one thing that you don’t wanna miss. Wearing Sandals while street walking will give maximum comfort. Aside from being lightweight wearing sandals makes you feel that your feet is ventilated.

If you love hiking, particularly backpacking, you have to choose sandals that provide good support that can prevent you slip in wet terrains and of course it can give you foot comfort. If your feet are not used to the sun, you can get a terrific sunburn on the tops of your feet from wearing sandals all day. Slip in some socks to give them a break.

Serious sandals
If you have some comfortable and sturdy sandals at home that you are used to walking in for several miles, bring them along. Birkenstocks are very comfortable shoes, even though they look like sandals. If you buy leather sandals on your trip, they will likely be uncomfortable and cause blisters for awhile; soak new ones in water, and apply a little oil to soften up the leather. The leather straps on sandals will eventually break or pull loose from the soles and be difficult to repair. If you are lucky, they will last several months.

Water sandals
Rafting and kayaking enthusiasts use soft plastic sandals with heel straps for boating. Good ones can be reasonably comfortable and will last for quite a while. They are also great for the shower, for rainy days, and can be used to protect your feet when swimming, diving, or beach walking. You won’t find them overseas, and you may have to go to a specialty sports shop or catalog to find them at home.

Some things to keep in mind when selecting sandals for proper fit are:

  • Consider the thickness of the sole. Thick sandals are much heavier.
  • Don’t buy sandals or any other type of shoe when you’re in a hurry. Take the time to actually walk around in them to find out if they’re going to look good and feel comfortable.

Personalised slippers?
I remember one shop in Boracay that can create a pair of sandals for you to almost any design, or you can choose from some of the weird and wonderful creations mounted on the wall. The price for a basic pair of sandals starts at approximately USD2.00.

I agree sandals are good to use when you are doing a lot of walking around. I find myself using thongs (slippers they are called in The Philippines) most of the time when I am visiting The Philippines.

You can get cheap sandals at most shopping malls but there is often a bigger range at the shops in the big cities like Cebu and Manila.

Everyone wears sandals in the warmer casual countries like Brazil or the Philipines. It also helps you fit in. You are less likely to look like a target if you avoid the cliche flower shirt and wear sandals. My husband has been in war zones in South America and we have learned to dress right.
