BEYOND THE FLOODS : Art exhibit for Malabon by Malabon Artists

Rare are the situations that people think of great food such as pancit Malabon, fresh sea foods, “sapin-sapin” and grand old houses when Malabon comes to mind. Gone are the days that former residents go back to their distinguished ancestral houses for family reunions or plain weekend sorties.

They fear treading the Malabon flood waters born out of rain and high tide. From famous to infamous, that is Malabon now, living the monicker “flood capital of Metro Manila”. But hope springs eternal for a group of fourth generation Malabon residents who call themselves “Mga Parokyano ng Malabon”. The group led by Monchett Lucas, envisions a cultural revival that will take the edge off Malabon’s negative reputation . Banking on homegrown talents, the group is opening an art exhibit entitled “Noong unang panahon…thoughts on Malabon, our town..” on August 31 to September 8, 2006 at the Pescadores Restaurant in Malabon City.

The art exhibit will feature the collection of Malabon artists on Malabon led by renowned father and son artists tandem Angel and Michael Cacnio. The proceeds of the art exhibit will finance various cultural projects to revive cultural interest in Malabon City. Other projects in –line are culinary and heritage tours.
