Filipino-Americans Reconnect With Their Heritage Via TFC’s New Docu-Reality Program
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.–ABS-CBN Global’s The Filipino Channel (TFC), the number one Filipino network in the world, today announced a new docu-reality program, “Pinagmulan: The Journey Home,” which premieres Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. PDT. The show is TFC’s third U.S. produced program and is part of TFC’s commitment to bringing quality programs catering to the tastes of the Filipino-American community.  Â
The docu-reality program follows the journey of Filipino-Americans in the United States, as they reconnect with their family and heritage in the Philippines. Mike Guingona, Mayor of Daly City, California, hosts and accompanies the show’s featured individuals as they trace their roots back to the home country.
The premiere episode features the story of Joann Hammer from Whittier, Calif., as she returns to her hometown of Baguio, the “summer capital” in the Cordillera region of the northern Philippines. Hammer’s last visit to the motherland was in 1974 and found change upon her return. Having recently discovered her half-sister Diane, a child that her father had sired outside of marriage, Hammer’s trip back home is a journey of forgiveness and resolution.
“The Filipino Channel is dedicated to creating quality original programs that bring a part of the Philippines back to Filipinos in America,” said Marites Militar, director of creative programming at TFC. “When we complete the building of our new studios this fall, we expect to offer even more U.S. produced shows.”
