Philippines witnesses 10.4 percent increment in foreign visitors in first six months

Philippines has witnessed 10.4 percent increment in visitors arrivals in the first six months of the year.

The statistics from the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT) revealed that 1.42 million foreign tourists visited the Asian country, with 220,000 arrivals each month. The figure was hovering around 1.28 million during the same period last year.

Philippine Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano said the United States, South Korea and Japan accounted for more than half (55.7 percent) of the arrivals. American tourists numbered 308,799, followed by South Koreans, 267,417, and Japanese, 215,273.

Other countries in the PDOT’s list of top 10 travel markets in terms of volume were China, Taiwan, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, Singapore and the United Kingdom, each recording arrival numbers ranging from 32,000 to 65,000.

Durano said the country is targeting three million tourists by the end of the year.

Recently, Durano, referring to India as a source market, recommended the visa-upon-entry privilege, a service that has already been accorded to Chinese tourists.
